MS Amlin announces three-year charity partnership with the British Red Cross

Collaboration aligns with MS Amlin’s priority UNSDGs and seeks to reduce the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities

As part of its commitment to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), MS Amlin, the Lloyd’s global specialty (re)insurer, is pleased to announce a three-year partnership with the British Red Cross, to support the global work of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The collaboration, which aligns with the priority UNSDGs – Climate Action, Gender Equality, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure – outlined in MS Amlin’s Sustainability Strategy last year, is aimed at helping reduce the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities.

Through the partnership, MS Amlin will directly support a female empowerment programme in collaboration with the Bangladesh Red Crescent that seeks to reduce the vulnerability of women and young people to climate related disasters and support them to adapt to climate change.  Women and girls in Bangladesh often suffer disproportionately when weather-related disasters strike due to their social and economic status, but they can also be a powerful force for change in their community. The programme will help women and their wider communities in Narayanganj to prepare for, deal with, and recover from climate-related disasters, including through livelihood support.

In addition, MS Amlin has committed to support the Red Cross Climate Centre, which seeks to manage the rising risk of extreme weather through better early-warning, disaster relief and risk reduction, and using climate-smart programmes for health care, water sanitation, and food security.

Commenting on the partnership, Andrew Carrier, CEO of MS Amlin, said: “We recognise that our commercial activities are not divorced from our moral and societal obligations. Becoming more socially responsible is the right thing to do for our clients, our people, our communities and our business, and it  will help us to create more long-term value. I am delighted to announce our partnership with the British Red Cross because I believe it will allow us to leverage our collective strengths and expertise to make a positive impact. I also believe that through the programmes and initiatives that we support, we can help shift the focus onto building greater resilience in communities. If we can do this, we will be able to better anticipate and deal with unexpected events.”

Paul Amadi, Chief Supporter Officer at British Red Cross said: “On behalf of the British Red Cross, I’m thrilled that we’re in partnership with MS Amlin who will contribute to our global work with Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Through our projects we’ll be able to support the most vulnerable communities to become more resilient to the effects of climate change that we know are happening more and more frequently. I believe that together through our mission to help people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are and MS Amlin’s commitment to reducing the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities, we can make meaningful change to communities feeling the impact of climate change”.
